The regular meeting of the North Baltimore Local Board of Education was held of Tuesday, December 20, 2011 in the Community Room of the North Baltimore Public Library at 5:30pm.
After a brief report by Treasurer, Eve Baldwin, and an update on the progress of the new MS/HS building by Superintendent, Marlene North, the meeting was briefly adjourned to watch and listen to an outstanding performance by the Powell Drama Club.
The Drama Club was started by Music Teacher, Emily Meyerson and teacher, Amy Hunsaker with the very able assistance of Ann Broughton. The Drama Club performed two short plays; “The Mitten”, and “Red Headed Robbie”. Featured in “The Mitten”: Mountain Carey, Owen Johnson, Gabe Salazar, Skylar Jacobsen, Garrett Ziegler, Cara Philips, Jordan Coup, Elijah Moody, Kylie Grilliot, Meredith Buchanan, Daisy Boyer. Featured in “Red Headed Robbie”: Caleb Philips, Stone Martin, Denny Simon, Emma Cotterman, Grace Knitz, Lucy Trout, Casey Mowery, Andrew Wilcox, Charles Grilliot, Gunner Kepling. The Powell Players topped off their show with their rendition of Rudolph. Featured soloists in “Rudolph”: Ariana Loera, Mackenzie Helbing, Kadence Reinhart, Josiah Boggs, Madison Westgate.
After brief reports by the building administrators, which can be read elsewhere in this publication, the meeting moved on to Superintendent’s recommendations:
Approved the following supplemental contracts for the 2011-12 school year: Jesse Thomas-Head Varsity Track Coach, Cyndi Hotaling-Varsity Asst. Track Coach, Jack Marshall-Varsity Asst. Track Coach, Michelle Schotter-Varsity Asst. Track Coach, Kathi Bucher-JH Track Coach, Bradlee Rowlinson-Volunteer Varsity Asst. Track Coach.
Approved a supplemental contract to Dino Woodruff, Head Varsity Football Coach for the 2012-13 school year. Approved a supplemental contract to Dawn Heminger, Head Volleyball Coach for the 2012-13 school year. Approved a supplemental contract to Bradlee Rowlinson, Head Varsity Cross Country Coach for the 2012-13 school year.
Approved the renewal membership with the ETPI (Education Tax Policy Institute) for the 2012-13 school year at a cost of $500.
Approved the Ohio School Boards Association Legal Assistance Fund Consultation Service Contract beginning January 1, 2012 through December 31, 2012 at a cost of $250.
Approved membership to the Ohio School Boards Association beginning January 1, 2012 through December 31, 2012 at a cost of
$3,212 for subscriptions and monthly update information.
Approved the following student teacher from BGSU with cooperating teacher, Luke Archer, for the 2011-12 school year paid through the BGSU General Fund: Anthony Smith.
Approved Dennis Miller to the North Baltimore Public Library Board for a seven-year term beginning January 1, 2012.
Approved an agreement with the Community Employment Services (CES) for services provided at powell School through a work program for $10.10 per hour for one year beginning January 1, 2012.
Approved a contract with the village of North Baltimore for water and sewer services for North Baltimore Local Schools at 2012 Tiger Drive.
Approved the following resolution relating to pending legislation in the Ohio General Assembly; House Bill 136, the expansion of the voucher program and Charter Schools:
The Ohio House of Representatives,( General Assembly), is currently considering legislation that would significantly expand the availability of vouchers for students to attend private or parochial schools; and the bill provides that students already enrolled in private or parochial schools would be eligible for such vouchers; and the operations of the proposed program would take dollars directly from the already financially beleaguered local public school districts resulting in fewer resources for the education of the remaining students.
BE IT RESOLVED: That the North Baltimore Local Board of Education does hereby express its opposition to this legislation; hereby referred to as HB 136, School Choice; and expresses it opposition to any legislation that seeks to transfer public funds to support private education.
Accepted the donation of proceeds from the crops harvested at the new building site of $9,332.03 for the 2011 season.
Accepted a donation of $200 from the Class of 1949 for a tree at the new MS/HS site in honor of the “49er’s”, to be deposited in the new MS/HS Landscape Fund, 019-9199.

The next regular meeting of the North Baltimore Local Board of Education will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at 5:30pm. This meeting will also include the annual organizational meeting to elect officers and outline procedures for the upcoming year. The regular meeting will follow. The meeting site will be the Community Room of The North Baltimore Public Library.
