Now that Summer Camp is out of the way. I will be entering all merit badges and ranks into National scout advancement. In August, during our camp at Doc Roberts woods, We will include parents day, on Sunday with potluck and Court of Honor recognizing all the advancement since January for our Troop. The date is set for Friday, August 17 thru Sunday, August 19. This is an annual event for the troop and includes fishing, swimming, and just having fun. .There is no cost but as usual, will need help with groceries. .
July 11 is the next opportunity for scouts to help out with Food Pantry. We will need 4 scouts again to help distribute food to the needy. Last month, Billy, Levi, and Noah P. Helped out. Anyone else want to pitch in. It counts as service hours..
Now for the big news. Troop 315 is joining the Chamber of Commerce. For the past couple of months, I have been working with Erie Shores, Chamber of North Baltimore, and Dr. Falkenstien with the North Baltimore High School to pilot this project. It's a new idea and a first for our council. The objective of joining is to;
Create awareness with business and commerce within the community, The boys be able to work within the chamber, meeting CEO's, heads of office and work with them in a civic forum
Open doors for eagle related projects within the community based on needs of city commerce, non profit and government
Voting rights within chamber in the areas of trustees, treasure, vice and president as well as running for office as a troop.
Creating a business relationship with business for opportunities such as FOS and sponsorship in future projects.
The plan is to work with scouts in 9th grade and up , rotating 2 at a time to meetings which are held on the last Wednesday of each month. Parental consent will be needed to take the scouts from school to Chamber meetings during lunch and part of 6th period. When talking to the High school principal. He indicated that it could be worked into the curriculum at school as well for Civics and Government courses, plus. Would look good on a resume or transcript for their future.
The scouts will attend 3 meetings and rotate to another group of 2. At scout meetings, Topics of interest will be brought to all scouts and if needed voted upon. I will then represent the scouts in voting at chamber. The possabilites are endless in working with the chamber.
Plus. In 1932, North Baltimore Chamber of Commerce was the first to charter the Boy scouts in town Thus Troop 315 was born.
