10th Annual Scarecrow Contest
Open to individuals, families, community and youth groups, and businesses.
$100-Grand Prize • $50-2nd Place • $25-3rd Place •16 years and under-$25 prize
Deadline to enter is Monday, October 8, 2012, unless you are building your scarecrow at our workshop on October 9, 2012. Entry forms and a complete set of rules are available online at www.wcparks.org, at Park District Headquarters, or at W.W. Knight Nature Preserve. Native Nursery Help – Volunteer Opportunity

Reuthinger Preserve
Join us on Thursday nights this summer at the Native Plant Nursery and Greenhouse at Reuthinger Preserve. Volunteers may be asked to plant, water, weed or collect seed. Dress to work outdoors and bring gloves if you have them.
Bike the S.E.T. and Lunch
Saturday, Sept. 29; 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.
Slippery Elm Trail: Rudolph Depot
Bike the Slippery Elm Trail from the Rudolph Parking Area to North Baltimore, around an 8 mile trip one way. The group will stop now and then to take in scenery and look for animals. We’ll take time to rest our legs and refuel our bodies by eating at The Whistle Stop Inn. After lunch, we’ll return to Rudolph. Cost: lunch money (around $10 per person) Capacity: 15

Scarecrow Workshop
Tuesday, October 9; 6:00-7:30 p.m.
Wood County Historical Center
Join in on the fun of the fall tradition of building scarecrows. We provide the straw, string, support pole, and refreshments; you bring scarecrow clothes, decoration, and support for the scarecrow’s back and arms (to attach to the display pole, if needed). You can take it home or enter it in our annual Scarecrow Contest to win cash prizes. Forms will be available at the workshop. Contest scarecrows will be left on display for our October 20th Folklore and Funfest at the Historical Center.
