The North Baltimore Rotary Club met May 20, greeting and hearing from a group travelling from Australia.
North Baltimore Rotary Club Announces scholarship recipients: $1,000 Brittany Daughenbaugh and Russ Coffey; $750 Gabriel DeLos Reyes, Cody Switzer, Logan Carles and McKenzie Stewart.
Diane Ragless reported that she had attended the District Conference.
Ron Stoner from the Bowling Green Rotary Club introduced the speakers from the Group Study Exchange under the leadership of David Brook. The group was visiting from near Melbourne, Australia.
All the Rotary clubs collaborated on a project called Grippsland Centenary where people could stay while family members were in the hospital. It is like the Ronald McDonald House here. Among the
activities they enjoy are Australian Rules football, cricket, netball and tennis. They also have many programs in the arts, dance, theater, and music. They also have art therapy activities to aid in depression, PTSD, and Parkinson’s disease among other uses.
Their economy was described by the 6F’s:
Farming, Fossil fuel power generation, Finance, Administration and Education, Foreign Tourists, Forestry and Family owned small businesses. They also have many community facilities where people can meet for a variety of activities. They also reported that volunteering was high in Australia. They also reported that they were learning a lot about Ohio and they hoped to bring back many positive ideas that they could use back home.
