Paddle the Pond

Mondays, June 9, 16, 23, 30; 4:00-7:00 p.m.

(Every Monday from June - August)

W.W. Knight Nature Preserve

29530 White Road, Perrysburg

Take one of our canoes for a spin on the pond! If you have never canoed, this is a great way to give it a try. Canoes, paddles, life preservers and instructions are provided. There is no charge and we supply everything you need. Canoes will be used on a first-come, first-served basis. Bonus: join a Park District ranger the first Monday of the month for more in-depth canoe instruction. No registration necessary.

Feeding Time: Garter Snake

Tuesday, June 10; 7:00-8:15 p.m.

W.W. Knight Nature Preserve: Friends' Green Room

29530 White Road, Perrysburg

Garter snakes are one of our most common local snakes. Learn about what makes them special and watch our program snake scarf down some grub. A short hike outside to search for garters in the wild will finish the evening.

Preschoolers in the Parks: Farm Time

Saturday, June 14; 10:30-11:15 a.m.

Carter Historic Farm

18331 Carter Rd., Bowling Green

For children 3-6 years of age. Participants will enjoy a short story and a craft. Adult companions must remain with children for this program.

Trolley on the Trail

Saturday, June 14; 5:00-7:30 p.m.

Slippery Elm Trail: Rudolph Parking Area

Enjoy a late summer ride down the Slippery Elm Trail, ending with a picnic dinner at Cricket Frog Cove. Bring your own picnic and some bowls, and we'll provide sundaes for dessert! The trolley is open air and can get chilly; a light jacket is suggested.

Spring Tree I.D.

Monday, June 16; 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Baldwin Woods Preserve

Can you tell the difference between a maple and an oak? What about an elm and a hackberry? If not this program is for you. Come learn the identifying characteristics of a variety of our native trees.

Birds and Bees

Wednesday, June 18; 6:00-7:30 p.m.

Reuthinger Preserve

Not those "birds and the bees!" Our honeybees and bobwhite quail! Find out about the Park District's honeybee program and bobwhite quail repopulation program and how these little creatures are helping the Park District.

Fire by the River

Friday, June 20; 6:00 p.m.-9:00 a.m.

Otsego Park

20000 West River Road, Bowling Green

Come spend the night sitting around a campfire along the mighty Maumee River. We will make corn fritters and have yard games set up. Please bring your own chair and bug spray. You are welcome to stay the night and camp down by the river, but you need to bring your own camping gear.

Bluebird Trail Maintenance

Tuesday, June 17; 6:15-7:45 p.m.

William Henry Harrison Park

644 Bierley Avenue, Pemberville

Join a newly formed group of volunteers to help naturalist staff maintain paths for bluebird nest box monitoring. Bring work gloves and dress for the weather. Loppers, pruners, and other equipment will be provided.

Stream Quality Monitoring

Saturday, June 21, 1:00-3:00 p.m.

Otsego Park

20000 West River Road, Bowling Green

Help monitor the water quality of the Maumee River. No experience necessary. Volunteers will go in the river, so please dress appropriately and have proper footwear.
