NBLS Focus on Education

Larry Woodruff Memorial Field House: We have been working hard to get the building ready to open. We have been able to receive partial occupancy at this time! That means that the parts of the building that are complete (locker rooms – without the lockers at this time) are available for student use.
The toilets, sinks and showers are all in working order. The multi-purpose room is painted and the floor is sealed. These were our two primary areas of focus so that we could begin to have wrestling, softball and baseball practice/open gyms in this space.
We want to get the storage areas finished, which includes completing electrical work in this area as well as finishing off the walls. When that piece is complete, we will move on to the public restrooms. The concession stand will happen when we are ready for it.
I had many positive comments from the community regarding the use of the material from the old building as foundation for our parking lot in the future. So, in addition, I wanted to make our community aware of all the things that we took out of the Main Building and Powell to reuse in the field house. I have listed those items that were salvaged being utilized somewhere in the sports building:
· All of the bathroom partitions and stall doors
· All of the urinals
· All of the sinks and drinking fountains
· All of the fire extinguishers
· The entire fire alarm system, including the exit lights and strobes
· All of the lighting in the entire building, including the lights in the multipurpose room, with the exception of the ones above the showers
· Many doors, closers, handles/hardware, etc.
This saved us thousands of dollars when building this project, in addition to feeling really good about reusing things that were in good shape and not wasting them. Please take note of these items when you stop out for a tour at the Open House on November 19th at 5:30.
Thank you to our Volunteers: There were many volunteers who gave up their evening to move the process along a little more quickly to prepare our field house for student activities. A great deal of painting was completed by the following volunteers:
Jim Gerdeman, Kelcie, Randy and Ron Bean, Jady Snyder, Jim, Wade, Joann, and Dalton Ishmael, Nicki Buchanan, Jesse Thomas, JP Miklovic, Tim Archer, Bob Falkenstein, Frankie Hernandez, Rob Brian, Monica and Matt Davis, Ben Pack, Kevin Switzer, Diane Wright, Tonda Hollenback, Bradlee Rowlinson, and Brian Fleck.

Blue tape, drop clothes and careful preparations made for a nice job!

Lots of help from current and former NBHS students!

Frankie explains to Monica, as Rob and Arch keep working.
Their work was very much appreciated! More volunteers will be needed for additional painting and the hanging of dry wall. Please call me if you can help (419.257.3531).
