On Saturday June 7th, 2014 Gleaner members met at Maranatha Bible Church in Van Buren for an evening of food, fellowship, recognition and education.
Following dinner CSR (Community Service Recognition) awards were presented to Becky Lucas and Abram Cunningham. The CSR award is given to individuals who are outstanding community volunteers.
Next, Mary Miller, with her dog Jasmine & Rhoda Bennett and her dog EZ shared what it is like to be part of Therapy Dogs International (TDI). They are part of a children’s reading program called “Tail Waggin Tutors”. Both dogs are regulars at the McComb library. A donation of books and videos pertaining to therapy dogs will be made to the McComb library on Jasmine’s & EZ’s behalf.
Then Emerson Focht provided a program called “Mission for Life”. The goal of the program is to help individuals identify the “right” amount of life insurance coverage for their situation (new baby, college loans that will need paid back, mortgage’s to cover, life insurance that still covers you throughout your senior years).
Following the presentations a short business meeting was held. The arbor approved a donation for Red Bird Mission as Eric Trout will be going there on a mission trip at the end of July. They also approved a donation to Chase Engle, a Boy Scout working on his Eagle project. He will be mulching a path that will lead to benches overlooking a pond at St Johns XXIII in Perrysburg.
