The soup pots were simmering and competitive juices were flowing at Briar Hill Health Campus on January 8th when the campus hosted their 2nd Annual Family Night Soup Cook-off.
Residents and family members enjoyed a variety of soups including Chicken Tortilla Chowder, Ham and Bean with Potato, White Chicken Chili, Steak Soup, Multiple Bean with Bacon, Vegetable Beef, and Beef and Noodles. Residents spent the day cooking their entries of White Chicken Chili and Beef with Noodles soups.
Event judges included Mark Detamore, Russell Bretz and Sandy Clevenger. The soups were judged on originality/creativity, overall heartiness/thickness, taste/flavor and whether the soup was considered to be restaurant-quality. Sandy Blausey’s Chicken Tortilla Chowder won the top prize.

While the judges were busy judging, the residents had the chance to taste all the entries themselves. And, while they had their favorites, they remained impartial while the judges determined who would win top honors.
