On Sunday, September 14, St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in North Baltimore will celebrate “Holy Cross Day” (a celebration which dates back to September 14, 335 A.D. Worship will open with a procession with cross and bible. The Junior Choir will conclude the opening rite with a Hymn of Praise.
Leading worship, which begins at 10:15 a.m., will be Bishop Marcus Lohrmann, bishop of the 164 congregations of the Northwestern Ohio Synod, and Pastor Ralph Mineo of St. Luke’s. Bishop Lohrmann will deliver a sermon titled, “The Sign of the Cross” based on 1 Corinthians 1:18–24.
The Junior and Senior Choirs will sing a combined anthem, a Swahili Hymn: “Asante Sana, Yesu” (Thank You, Jesus). Holy Communion will follow.
After worship, the congregation will join together for a fellowship meal.
Sunday School for all ages begins at 9:00 a.m. Bishop Lohrmann will teach the Adult Class.
The Church Council of St. Luke’s will meet on Sunday, September 14 at 6:00 p.m.
The “Good News+Amen!” Leadership Team of St. Luke’s will meet on Monday, September 15 at 6:00 p.m. for a vision and planning meeting.
St. John’s Lutheran Church in McComb will also celebrate “Holy Cross Day” on Sunday, September 14. Pastor Ralph Mineo will lead worship there at 8:00 a.m. and preach a sermon, “Lift High the Cross.”
