Twelve 6th graders competed in the Powell Elementary Spelling Bee in North Baltimore. Contestants went through 25 rounds before a winner was crowned.
The winner of the 6th grade Powell School Spelling Bee was Tyler Schwartz. Runner-up/Alternate was Lilly Woods. Tyler had to spell correctly the word ISOLATION to win.
Tyler advances to the Wood County Spelling Bee on February 23, 2013, where he will compete against other 6th grade Wood County school winners. Lilly will fill in for Tyler if for some reason Tyler cannot be present. The winner of the Wood County Spelling Bee advances to the NW Ohio Spelling Bee on March 14, 2013.
The commentator of the spelling bee was Teacher Steve Green. Judges were Teacher Jeanne Titus and from Huntington Bank Mandy Baltz.
