Baskets of Care will host a “Zumbathon” on Sunday, October 19, 2014, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., at the Student Recreation Center, Bowling Green State University.
BGSU’s Alpha Phi Omega Zeta Kappa Chapter is sponsoring the Zumbathon. Baskets of Care provides women and men newly diagnosed with breast cancer with essential educational materials, peer support, and Comfort Care Bags.
“Our Zumbathon is one of Baskets of Care’s major fundraisers,” says Gail Cooper, breast cancer survivor and founder of Baskets of Care. “A breast cancer diagnosis is overwhelming. Most people don’t know what to do first. Baskets of Care offers help as soon as someone receives a diagnosis.”
Baskets of Care’s assistance comes in the form of Comfort Care Bags, which are free of charge and contain essential educational and support materials that help patients through their journey with breast cancer. Since it began in 2010, Baskets of Care has gifted over 1,200 Comfort Care Bags to newly diagnosed breast cancer patients.
Here is what just one of those recipients had to say about their Comfort Care Bag:
“I wanted to let you know that I am reading the book and using the notebook. Although I have had my husband, my two children, my sisters and brothers, my mother and mother-in-law to get me to this point, I must thank you, too! The book that you placed in the tote bag has certainly gotten me over the initial shock of being told I have breast cancer. I hope that when I finish treatment that I can give back to you. Thank you for your initiative to help those like us!” —Jeanne
Each Comfort Care Bag includes:
· The book, “Just Get Me Through This” by Deborah Cohen
· Educational materials provided by American Cancer Society, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and Baskets of Care
· “Questions to Ask Your Doctor”

· Two-year journey calendar and folio for medical appointments and records
· Heart-shaped pillow, hand sewn by volunteers, to wrap around seat belts to protect the breast
